Max Verstappen Brazilian Grand Prix 2024 Comeback Win

Let’s revisit one of the most thrilling comeback moments in Formula 1 history: Max Verstappen’s incredible charge from P17 to victory at the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix in São Paulo. This legendary race not only cemented his status as one of the sport’s greatest but also saw him break multiple records. Verstappen became the only driver to win from 10 different grid positions and surpassed Michael Schumacher by leading the championship standings for the most consecutive races.

The stage was set at Interlagos, where rain fell just as the race began. Starting from 17th, Verstappen launched his charge the moment the five red lights went out. His pace was electric—by the end of the opening lap, he had already gained seven positions, breaking into the points. Meanwhile, Lando Norris had a poor start, losing ground to George Russell, and could only claw back pace by the third lap. On the radio, Norris kept asking his team about Verstappen, highlighting just how much he was watching the Dutchman’s progress.

By Lap 5, Verstappen overtook Pierre Gasly for ninth. By Lap 6, he swept past Fernando Alonso into eighth. Lap 10 saw him dive down the inside of Oscar Piastri at Turn 1 for seventh, and by Lap 11 he had overtaken Liam Lawson for sixth. His relentless pace was unmatched.

Then came the turning point. On Lap 29, heavy rain intensified, forcing the safety car to be deployed. Under the neutralized conditions, Franco Colapinto crashed into the wall on Lap 32, triggering a red flag. This reshuffled the race order, allowing Verstappen, Esteban Ocon, and Gasly—who had already pitted—to gain a huge advantage.

When racing resumed, Verstappen was on fire. He closed the gap to Norris and stormed into second place, just 2.9 seconds behind Ocon. On Lap 43, Verstappen struck with brilliance—making a daring dive into Turn 1, surprising Ocon on the inside, and seizing the lead. From that moment, he controlled the race.

In a performance reminiscent of Ayrton Senna at Interlagos, Verstappen defied the odds and claimed a sensational victory. The 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix will forever be remembered as one of his defining triumphs—an epic comeback that secured his place in Formula 1 history.
