The dust has finally settled—Formula 1’s 11th team, Cadillac, has officially confirmed its driver lineup for the 2026 season. 35-year-old Sergio Pérez will team up with 36-year-old Valtteri Bottas, marking their return to the grid.
Earlier in the year, Cadillac’s management had been in talks with several other drivers, including former Sauber driver Zhou Guanyu, former Haas driver Mick Schumacher, and 2022 Formula 2 champion Felipe Drugovich. However, by late July, following a crucial shareholders’ meeting, the team decided to prioritize drivers with extensive F1 race experience.
The outcome was clear: Bottas and Pérez, two seasoned veterans who have competed for multiple F1 teams throughout their careers, represent the most reliable option for Cadillac to establish itself on the grid.
Although both drivers have often played the role of “No.2 driver” during their careers, current information suggests that Cadillac has learned from Pérez’s frustrations at Red Bull. Their contracts reportedly specify that Bottas and Pérez will enjoy equal status within the team, ensuring a fair and balanced partnership moving forward.
